Our story

THE BEGINNINGS

The birth of a project

The history of Laser Game Evolution began in 1996, when Patrick Fournier, a science fiction enthusiast and paintball fan, conceived an innovative, immersive indoor leisure activity based entirely on lasers. His goal at the time was to create the equipment and design a venue dedicated to this pastime.

The prototype equipment

Patrick Fournier enlisted the help of a group of enthusiastic friends – including the father of one of them, an electronics engineer – to build the V-0 in his garage. Made from recycled materials, this first piece of equipment comprised a 100% laser pointer, a vest fitted with a counter, diodes and LEDs. The first maze would follow the same principle.

A checked ambition

Very quickly, the customers turned up, and the V1 generation of the equipment was developed (laser tag gun and vest). However, the project came to an abrupt halt when they had to close the premises for administrative reasons. Patrick Fournier thus found himself alone in this venture.

Opening of a concept

Still keen to bring his project to fruition, he is brimming with energy and manages to find a new, suitable venue, as well as securing the necessary permits. The players turned out in force: this was France’s very first 100% laser tag venue, on Rue Colonel-Dumont in Grenoble.

EVOLUTION OF THE CONCEPT

A growing success

The very first centre set up by Patrick Fournier was named "Laser Game", and very quickly many players let it be known that they would like to set up a Laser Game in their town. We therefore realised that there was a potential market to be exploited.

A start-up brand

It was in 1999, with the V1 generation of hardware, that we were able to meet this demand. These were the beginnings of the "Laser Game" brand, which would enable 4 or 5 new centres to be set up near Grenoble.

The brand licence

To accelerate our development, we chose the brand licence. It allowed us to quickly equip the new centres, train them and roll out successfully. Customers, operators and players embraced it immediately.

Evolving: the heart of the project

A strategic choice is necessary with the addition of ’Evolution« to »Laser Game«. This name reflects our desire to innovate continuously, by evolving our methods as well as our equipment from the outset.

EQUIPMENT EVOLUTION

Generation v-0

In 1996, Patrick Fournier teamed up with a group of enthusiastic friends, including the father of one of them – an electronics engineer – to design the V-0 in his garage. Made from recycled materials, this first prototype comprised a 100 % laser gun and a sheet-metal armour plate.

Generation v-1

It was in 1999, with the V1 generation of equipment, that Laser Game Evolution® introduced a technological dimension and greater comfort, with the appearance of a lighter vest and a safer laser gun, equipped with foam reinforcements to cushion impacts.

Generation v-2

V2 generation pushes its technology and intensifies immersion through the addition of shoulder targets. Combining design and ergonomics, this version offers a much more comfortable and secure experience thanks to the new padding on the vest and phaser.
